Using fibre attenuation data provided by the manufacturer, we can make an estimation of the throughput for diferent fibre lengths, however, the following should be taken as a rough preliminary estimation only. The current fiber routing design concept has ~15-meter fibres from the focal surface to the LR (low resolution) spectrographs and ~20-meter fibres to the HR (high resolution) spectrograph. The fibre feed system loss is estimated to be approximately 16%. This includes ~4% Fresnel loss at fibre input, ~1% loss in throughput at connectors, ~1% Fresnel loss at fibre slit and ~10% FRD (focal ratio degradation) loss at the collimator.
