Due to the delicate nature of fibre spines and fibre cables, and their impact on the performance of the instrument, special attention will be paid to monitor their health. The Fibre Positioner AESOP will periodically provide the Facility Control Software with its health and status information and current performance of selected spines. The fibre cable health will not be monitored on real time with sensors, but using fibre flat field and calibration data. Good health indicators will be the relative fibre-to-fibre response (for throughput) and the contrast between neighbouring spectra (de-focus, focal ratio degradation).
